2005/02/01: A small bug in 2.0 Beta 6 has surfaced: After creating a project, you have to reopen the project dialog before you can add a work area. Will be fixed in Beta 7. Which is well underway - expect at least one useful and oft-requested new feature.
2005/01/25: Thierry USO has completed an OpenVMS port of Superversion 1.2. He fixed a few platform-specific issues and created a PCSI kit. A port of Superversion 2.0 is planned.
2005/01/20: 2.0 Beta 6 released. Work area scans can now be cancelled and are performed without blocking the application. An external diff tool can be integrated. The size limit for files and change sets has been extended. Work areas can be moved. Meta changes are synchronized between client and server. Miscellaneous UI details have been improved.
2004/10/20: 2.0 Beta 5 released. This release focuses on user interface. Local and remote project management and server administration have been unified into a single dialog. Look and feel and fonts are now user-selectable. Diff views now show line numbers. The data caching strategy has been improved; commits now work reliably in offline mode.
Beta 5 is fully compatible with Beta 4 in database format and communication protocol.
2004/10/10: The Superversion project celebrates its 1,000th download! Next task: Increase by factor 1,000 :D
2004/10/09: 2.0 Beta 4 released. Synchronization is now much faster and truly atomic even over unreliable connections. File type patterns can be imported and exported as a text file. The history of marker movements can be inspected. Commits typically require less mouse clicks. A number of small bugs have been fixed; most notably, large files in the work area no longer cause an out of memory exception. Total download size of the application was decreased.
Note: Beta 4's communication protocol is incompatible with Beta 3. Please upgrade server and client simultaneously.
2004/10/05: Productive days! 2.0 Beta 3 was released today. Conflicts arising from concurrent commits are now solved semi-automatically. A task list of outstanding merges is maintained. The history graph was rewritten from scratch for cleaner looks and improved speed. It can now be filtered to show only recent changes. Merges now appear in the graph as dotted lines. When creating a project, a HEAD marker is created. A problem with marker synchronisation and a number of minor bugs were fixed.
Beta 3's communication protocol is compatible with Beta 2; however, it is advised to update both server and client to Beta 3 simultaneously.
2004/10/02: 2.0 Beta 2 released: Markers are now synchronized between server and client. There are now 4 different user privilege levels, ranging from Visitor to Administrator. Closing the Server GUI window doesn't stop the server anymore. A redirect function allows relocating a server without having to inform the clients. Lots of UI quirks were corrected.
2.0 Beta 2 also marks a turning point in the project's history: Superversion becomes self-hosting! The Superversion sources are no longer kept in CVS, but managed and distributed over the public Beta 2 server.
In other news, the project received its own domain name - superversion.org :)
2004/09/28: Two new releases in one day!
- 1.2: DOS/Unix newline characters are now seen as identical. A rarely occurring deadlock has been fixed. Database format updated to be compatible with 2.0 Beta 1.
- 2.0 Beta 1: All changes of 1.2, plus: introduction of multi-user and client/server operation! For details, see this page.
2004/09/23: 1.1 released. Files can now be classified manually as binary or text.
2004/09/10: 1.0 released. Bugfixes, speedup and small UI improvements. Many thanks to the beta users for their feedback, support and documentation efforts. Next task: Evangelize! :)
2004/09/04: 1.0 Release Candidate is out! It brings user interface improvements and a cleaned up code base.
2004/09/01: 1.0 Beta 9 is out. More keywords supported: RCSfile, Source, Date. UTF8 files are recognized as text. Extended commit dialog with a checkbox for moving markers. Bugfix (markers were not saved correctly).
2004/08/26: 1.0 Beta 8 is out. New "marker" system for labelling project states. Ability to delete projects. Safety check against accidentally overwriting projects. Significant speed-up for large repositories.
2004/08/12: Two tutorials are available!
2004/07/21: 1.0 Beta 7 gives each state a unique number, can merge branches and replaces a first keyword in source files ($Revision).
2004/07/15: 1.0 Beta 6 adds two report functions (file history and state comparison) and allows changing descriptions of existing states. Client/server operation is also making great progress. The first remote updates have been performed! This feature is still highly experimental though and not enabled yet.
2004/07/06: 1.0 Beta 5 brings the following improvements: File comments, fulltext search in history, better handling of binary files in conflicts, individual file export.
2004/06/29: 1.0 Beta 4 brings the following changes: Branches, conflict detection and resolution and, as always, UI improvements.
2004/06/23: 1.0 Beta 3 is out: Vastly smaller repository size (all file changes stored as diffs), intra-line diff coloring and a number of small improvements.
2004/06/18: 1.0 Beta 2 is out: One-click file preview, preservation of window and panel sizes between sessions, small bug fix concerning ignored files.
2004/06/14: Version 1.0 Beta 1 released! Update works now (including automatic merging and conflict detection).
2004/06/05: New release: Lots of UI improvements, state export as zip file, automatic change classification (number of lines changed etc.), additional notes field to describe change sets in detail. Try it here! Still working on update function.
2004/05/31: New release: Dramatic speed improvements, small UI changes
2004/05/26: Development resumes. Small but useful new features: delete local files, automatically open work area after project selection.
2004/01/18: Fine-tuned GUI, added help to all dialogs.
2004/01/07: New year, new build. Superversion now sports a beautiful look&feel and can show diffs.
2003/11/03: Are you brave? Try out a pre-release of Superversion. For the link to work, you need Java WebStart (part of JDK 1.4 or higher).
2003/10/22: GUI looks a lot better now.
2003/10/20: Added new feature: Mark directories as "ignored".
2003/10/05: Foundations of the API, a Smyle-based backend and the GUI are laid. Screenshot. Now I need to add some actual functionality :)
2003/09/25: Superversion website and mailing list are up. Feverishly hacking towards the first release (to be distributed via Java WebStart for your convenience).
